The position is responsible to install, set-up and monitor local area network (LAN). It includes a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation and training tasks to ensure LAN perfromance meets AAW and users requirements

• Administers network workstations, utilizing one or more TCP/IP or non-TCP/IP networking protocols and or one or more operating systems
• Evaluates and/or recommends purchases of computers, network hardware and peripheral equipment
• Investigates user problems, identifies problem sources, determines possible solutions and tests and implements these solutions
• Installs, configures and maintains personal computers, networks, workstations, file servers, ethernet networks, network cabling and other related euipment, devices and systems
• Adds or upgrades and configures modems, disk drives, data acquisition boards, CD ROM units, printers and other related equipment
• Plans and implements network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users
• Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties
• Develops and conducts various training and instruction for system users on operating systems, relational databases and other applications; assists users in maximising use of networks and computing systems
• Establishes and performs maintenance programs following company and vendor standards
• Documents networks problems and ensures timely user notifications of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability
• Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the ICT Policies and Procedures
• Ensures that the support and services given are delivered within the ICT governance framework
• Performs other work-related duties and responsibilities as directed by the head/s of the department
