DBA/System Administrator

A (DBA / system administrator) will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database. Additional role requirements are likely to include planning, development and troubleshooting & systems/networks administration
Responsibilities include:
DBA Part
- Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, education and production usage.
- Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases.
- Performs ongoing tuning of the database instances.
- Install new versions of the Oracle RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the Oracle database.
- Plans and implements backup and recovery of the Oracle database.
- Controls migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes and menu changes through the development life cycle.
- Implements and enforces security for all of the Oracle Databases.
- Performs database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum up time of the database.
- Puts standards in place to ensure that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security and performance.
- Evaluates releases of Oracle and its tools, and third party products to ensure that the site is running the products that are most appropriate. Planning is also performed by the DBA, along with the application developers to ensure that any new product usage or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact.
- Provides technical support to application development teams.
- Enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure integrity of the database.
- Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures.
- Assists with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects.
- Troubleshoots with problems regarding the databases, applications and development tools.
- Create new database users as required.
- Manage sharing of resources amongst applications.
- The DBA has ultimate responsibility for the physical database design.
System Administration Part
- Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems.
- Introducing and integrating new technologies into existing data center environments.
- Performing routine audits of systems and software.
- Performing backups.
- Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration
changes.
- Installing and configuring new hardware and software.
- Adding, removing, or updating user account information, resetting passwords, etc.
- Answering technical queries.
- Responsibility for security.
- Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system.
- Troubleshooting any reported problems.
- System performance tuning.
- Ensuring that the network infrastructure is up and running.

DBA Part
- Minimum six years of experience with Oracle 10g /11g
- Must be certified as an Oracle DBA
- Experience installing and maintaining Oracle 10g/11g RAC (ideally an extended RAC) on Linux/UNIX including shell/Perl scripting
- Experience executing backup/recovery procedures
- Excellent SQL and PL/SQL skills
- Experience in Oracle clusterware technology
- Experience installing and maintaining Oracle ASM
- Excellent working knowledge of Linux/UNIX.
- Knowledge of RMAN backup tool
- Understanding of, and preferably experience with SAN technologies.
- MySQL experience a plus
- Oracle WebLogic experience is a plus.
- Apache Tomcat experience is a plus.
System Administrations Part
- Minimum four years of experience in systems/networks.
- Several years experience with Windows 2000/2003 Server platforms with an emphasis on Active Directory
- Strong background in Exchange 2000/2003 messaging system.
- Solid knowledge of LAN/WAN configurations to include experience with Cisco routers & switches, Internet firewalls, and wireless technology.
- Advanced hardware & software troubleshooting skills
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science (or equivalent). Masters degree is a plus.
